Nico was back at the poker table last night, playing against Bernie, Flavio, VJ Mallya, Robert Kubica, Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella for the second night running. Our man didn’t win, but reported an amusing story. “You look much cooler with your shades on,” Kubica told Mallya prior to the game and, feeling flattered, VJ duly put his on. Spare a thought for AT&T Williams mechanic Matt Bazzo. Usually on the test team, Matt was drafted in to help the race team at Hockenheim and he now heads straight to Jerez for four days of testing. He left the paddock this evening clutching several cans of Battery…
During next week’s four-day test session, the teams will have their final test of the summer of Bridgestone’s 2009 slick tyres. They will also test a wet tyre scheduled for introduction in 2010, which suggests the Japanese are taking the increasing number of wet races seriously.
A new generation of drivers was present at Hockenheim. Rubens Barrichello brought along sons Eduardo and Federico to the race. Eduardo, aged five, is already karting at home in Brazil so can we expect to see him in an F1 car in 2020?
